Dresses.

A dress that fits everywhere except one place is the most common thing we see, and it is almost always the easiest to solve.

Walk-ins welcome. 3801 Kirby Dr, Upper Kirby. Doing this since 1998.

01What we do

Fitted, not just shortened.

Most dress alterations that go wrong go wrong because somebody treated the dress as a hem with fabric attached. A dress hangs from the shoulders and fits or fails at the bust, the waist, and the hip, in that order. We fit the dress as a whole, then cut.

Formalwear, professional attire, and the dress you bought because you loved it and hoped it would fit. Womenswear gets the same bench and the same hands as everything else in the shop.

Straps and shouldersShortened, moved, rebuilt
Bust and side seamsTaken in or let out
WaistTaken in
HemAnd the length
ZippersReplaced
Pinned on you before any cutting Zippers replaced, not patched Hand finishing where it shows

02What it costs

Bring it in. We will tell you.

It depends on the garment and what it needs, and we would rather look at it than guess at it over the phone.

We will tell you what it needs, what it will cost, and when it will be ready. If it is not worth doing, we will tell you that too, and we will not charge you for the opinion.

03The rest of the bench

Not the right page?

Everything wearable comes over the same bench. Pick the garment, or just bring it in and let us look at it.

06Questions

Questions people ask.

Can a dress be taken down several sizes?
Often, yes, within limits set by the dress. Taking in the bust, waist and hip is common work. Going down several sizes at once depends on the cut and the seams. Bring it in and we will tell you honestly what the dress will allow.
How soon before an event should I bring my dress in?
Sooner is safer. Bring it in a few weeks ahead so there is time for a fitting and any adjustments. For a wedding dress, earlier still.
Can you replace a zipper in a dress?
Yes. A broken or gaping zipper can be replaced, and an invisible zipper reset so it sits flat. It is common work and it does not come back if it is done right.
